SPAM Musubi - Hawaiian Musubi - How to make SPAM Musubi

Ingredients

  • 5 Cups - Cooked Sushi Rice
  • 5-6 Sheets of Nori
  • 1 - 12 oz Can - SPAM
  • 1/4 Cups - Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 Cup - Mirin
  • 1/4 Cup - Sugar
  • Furikake to taste (optional)
Directions
  • Cook Sushi rice according to directions on the bag.
  • In a large bowl combine 4 TBS of Mirin & 4 TBS of Sugar.
  • Add rice to the bowl and mix thoroughly, then set aside until read to use.
  • Cut the SPAM into 8-10 pieces and pan fry over medium heat until golden brown.
  • Remove SPAM, add soy sauce and the remaining Mirin and sugar and bring to a simmer.
  • Add the SPAM back into the pan and simmer in the sauce until it begins to reduce and thicken.
  • Line the empty SPAM can with plastic wrap and fill half way with the rice.
  • Pack the rice down firmly then add a slice of SPAM.
  • Using the plastic wrap pull the SPAM out and wrap with 1/2 sheet of Nori.
  • Continue until all of your Musubi is done!

  2. How much did all the ingredients cost together? I want to make this pretty soon and I don't want to overshoot my grocery budget

    1. They sell Spam at the local Dollar Tree (check your dollar stores). Sometimes I can find short grain white rice there too. Trader Joes has nori sheets for $1 as well. Daiso variety stores sell the rice wine vinegar for very cheap, too. This is a VERY budget-friendly recipe!
