I followed this recipe exactly as written and it was awesome. By far the best salisbury steak recipe I have tried so far, and I have tried a few.
DeleteLooks so good. Definitely going to try.
DeleteYou say 2 cups water in the video and the written recipe says 4 cups just want to clarify the amount.
DeleteJames501glover - the 4 cups in the written recipe is the correct amount.
DeleteI just made this. It was soooooo good, i had to make a few alteration since i wasnt going to the store lol. But i used i large can of french fried onions instead of yellow onion and i used 2 bullion cubes coz ya im not sure what the beef paste stufff if lol. ill search it later but really this is so good i can imagine its even better done right, the mushrooms what i wanna do to it....anyways well worth the make easy and yummy
Delete3RD Time making these and they turn out great every time. Thanks for posting all your food stuff ,I will be trying more.

DeleteI was just wondering, is it 2 cups or 4 cups of water? Recipe says 4, video says 2
Delete4 cups, Larry has a reply on October 6,2019 clarifying.
Delete.....yes, didn't see the post at first, just saw it when looking at the recipe again. Thanks 👍
DeleteI am totally making this tonight.
DeleteThis was excellent and foolproof. My very finicky kids ate it and asked me to make it again within the same week.
DeleteI have this simmering in my electric skillet right now. It smells SO good! Can't wait to dig in!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed it Claire!! Please let me know how you liked it! Thank you!
DeleteLarry
Larry wolfe this was the best
DeleteI made this and my family loved it. I replaced the bread crumbs with Ritz cracker and I did add the mushrooms. It was delicious. Thanks for the recipe!!!

DeleteLarry
I'm making this for my family tonight...great recipe! Thank you!

DeleteLarry
I made your recipe for this the other day and it turned out spectacular! My family loved it, we will be making it again for sure!
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone enjoyed it Josh! Thank you for giving it a try!
DeleteLarry
I used ground turkey and the cook didn't get a chance to partake as it was devoured instantly! Excellent recipe.
ReplyDeleteMusic to my ears!! Thanks for giving it a try and doing it your way with turkey Willie! Glad everyone enjoyed it and sorry you didn't get a chance to enjoy!
DeleteLarry
I am making this for my family right now as I speak. I have it simmering it has about 15 minutes left. I can't wait to try it. Going to pair it with the mashed potatoes and green beans. I will let you know how it turns out
DeleteHow did ya'll like it Shauna?!
DeleteI have made this twice and it just gets better and better!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane! Glad you are enjoying it!!!
DeleteWell I made them exactly as described. If you like over cooked hamburgers this is the recipe for you. The sauce was the one redeeming factor which kept me from just discarding the meal. Now, to be fair, I am not a well done hamburger fan.
ReplyDeleteYeah this isn't really a 'hamburger' recipe, they really must simmer in the gravy for this type of dish. I too like a medium rare burger.
DeleteI've just made this and my family loves it. Even my son, who is not a big meat eater, adored this. Served this with mashed potatoes and beans. So good and so filling! Thank you thank you thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Heather glad everyone enjoyed it!!!
DeleteThis is absolutely amazing!!! My husband favorite dish! I make this like twice a month! When I went to visit my in laws the whole family loved it and there were no left overs! Thank you sooo much!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! Glad everyone is enjoying it!!
DeleteExcellent flavor, easy prep, great recipe, thanks!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn the video you use 2 cups of water but, the recipe calls for 4 cups. Which is the correct amount?
ReplyDeleteIt's 4 cups, sorry.
Deletethis is the third or fourth time ive made this and every time its set upon like a celebrity at a paparazzi convention. i do add the mushrooms as well as just a little pinch or oregano into the meatballs, just for a little extra flavor
ReplyDeleteI saw where someone suggested Ritz crackers instead of bread crumbs. I tried it that way plus a little Thyme and just a pinch of cayenne pepper. It's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteTrying it out now! Can't wait! With mashed potatoes!
ReplyDeleteI've made this 4 or 5 times now, exactly as written. My wife and I both love it. However, I must admit I use ground sirloin. It is perfect. And, even better with mashed potatoes - topped with the gravy..Awesome!
ReplyDeleteGround sirloin is great too! Glad you're enjoying it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHusband so funny... he got an attitude about salisbury steak thinking about school lunch version. But he ate it like he had not eaten in days. I watched your video first which was really helpful. Added mushrooms and made extra gravy. So SO good. Thanks for the recipe and idea to make it. Excellent recipe.
ReplyDeleteHaha!! All these years he thought it would taste like schools Salisbury steak! Glad you all enjoyed it! Thanks!
DeleteLarry
unique dish
ReplyDeleteI think this recipe is fantastic. I added the mushrooms to the onions and just a little dried mustard into the meat. It is absolutely delicious complimented with baked potatoes and that tasty gravy! Thanks, Larry!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awesome Troy! Thanks!
DeleteCan I use beef stock instead of beef base and water?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Debra
Absolutely Debra! Hope you enjoy!
DeleteThis was excellent. Glad I seen your recipe. Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving it a try! Glad you enjoyed it!
Deletewhat is the slyrret?
DeleteI have no beef base instead can I use beef stock instead of water and beef bouillon I'm not a good cook but going to try and make this recipe for the first time
ReplyDeleteYes, bouillon or broth will work the same. Thanks and enjoy!
DeleteHi Larry where do you find beef base that at have you seen them at Walmart or any groceries store
ReplyDeleteGrocery stores and Walmart have it by the soup and broth.
DeleteMade this today. Fantastic! Thanks, Larry!
ReplyDeleteThis is the second recipe of yours that I've tried. Both were easy to make and absolutely wonderful to eat!!! I'll be trying more in the future. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I was wondering if I could use beef broth in lieu of the 4 cups water? Also, can you please tell me where I would find beef base? I have never heard of that. Can I use (if I can find it) beef base and beef broth for this recipe, or would that be too "beefy?" LOL Thank you so much! Beth :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
DeleteNo you only want to use one or the other. If you use beef base use the water, if you don't use beef base use only broth or stock. You can buy beef base in any grocery store it's in the broth and soup aisle. If not Amazon has it, here's a link - https://amzn.to/2SC0lZO
I use beef broth and the better than beef base and it turns out just fine.
DeleteThis has become a family favorite. I tweeked it a bit but still so good thank you so very much.
ReplyDeleteREED FAMILY! 👽💗
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCan you make this in a crock pot?
ReplyDeleteOh this brings back memories!! Used to make this all of the time when the children were youngsters. It is such a forgiving dish. Don't have an ingredient? No problem. I've used crackers and even ground oatmeal at times for the binder and bouillon and good old gravy master for the dark gravy. Served with mashed potatoes and green beans or corn. Yum! Our daughter used to always request it for her birthday meal! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane! Going to have to make this just for old times sake!
ReplyDeleteWow! Made this a couple of weeks ago and couldn't wait to make it again! In fact i'm making it right now. Rarely do i follow a recipe "almost" to the tee but it was very close! Delicious! Used beef broth cause i had no beef base! Super delicious and mushrooms are a must if you like them!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I made this, my wife told me we were never allowed to buy frozen types again, always have to be homemade. I use baby portabello mushrooms in this. I have made this at least a dozen times now, and it's always a hit. Making it right now for a party tomorrow, just making them as mini meatballs, and will simmer them in a slow cooker. Awesome recipe, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you glad you are enjoying it! The meatball idea is one I will try for sure!
DeleteThis looks so good. I'm definitely will be cooking this next weekend. Thanks
ReplyDeleteLarry,I made these for my brothers who are 87. They absolutely loved it. I will be making them over and over.
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone enjoyed them!! Thanks!
DeleteLarry
I hadn't made Salisbury steak in quite a while so I tried your recipe with the addition of some chopped green pepper. Just like Mom's.
ReplyDeleteJust made this wonderful recipe.. Hands down 10 out of 10.. Thank you
ReplyDeletethis looks delicious! i will be trying asap! thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome recipe,I followed it word per word and my guest and I were very satisfied I give you and your recipe 5 stars on this
ReplyDeleteWhat is beef base??
ReplyDeleteConcentrated beef stock. https://www.betterthanbouillon.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjw8NfrBRA7EiwAfiVJpTb4Vd5dWjEniVqVeZBF5oJha1gyW-CGHVyELuk6DjnYdQbyn3cARBoCdqYQAvD_BwE
ReplyDeleteWe don't have beef paste where I live at. Can I substituted for beef broth? if so how many cups do I pour in?
ReplyDeleteYes, just omit the beef base and water and use beef stock or broth. Enjoy
DeleteOh my goodness! This was awesome !!! Made it this evening and my family suffered for an hr while it simmered ! When it was done I barely had a chance to get the sides on the table before it was GONE !!!!!! Thank you for this recipe!!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 lbs of hamburger now..I think I'm going to go I've it a try
ReplyDeleteMy hubby laughed at 1st that its supposed to be a cube steak. This was delicious and even he said so several times! The biggest change was I needed 2Tbl more cornstarch to make the gravy thicker. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteim gonna give this a test! looks mighty good!
ReplyDeletewish me luck!!!
I’ve made this about a half dozen times over the years and it really is great. I made it tonight and just wanted to finally say thank you for this recipe. I grew up fairly underprivileged and ate a lot of TV dinners that were Salisbury steak. I always loved it and having a great version of it takes me back to my childhood in the best way possible. I even use ground Wagyu to make it now which makes it next level! It’s fresh made and taste so good! Thank you very much for this recipe and so many of your others. Your contribution to my meals has been so beneficial.
ReplyDeleteThis is our goto recipe for Salisbury steak. Delicious!!! I usually make extra patties and freeze them to make easy work for a weeknight meal.
ReplyDeleteHi I don't have beef base what could I use to substitute it.
ReplyDeleteWhat type of beef base are u using?
ReplyDeleteBetter than Bouillon
DeleteThank you for your recipe. I tried it many times and my family looooves it's taste. It's a simple recipe that's why I don't have a hard time following it. I'm Jo from Davao City Philippines. God bless!
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing, have to give it a try. Can this be put in a crock pot and if so how long?
ReplyDeleteHi Larry, do you think adding green pepper would be a good addition or make the final result too strong or bitter? I love salisbury steak so I can't wait to try your version.
ReplyDeleteReally tasty and delicious Salisbury steak. Love it
ReplyDeleteI just made your recipe tonight. I followed it exactly, except no mushrooms, and made it in our enameled cast iron dutch oven. I served it with mashed potatoes and peas and carrots. As my wife said, "this is freakin' amazing!" It was leagues above any Salisbury steak I've ever had before. Thanks very much!
ReplyDeleteVery tasty meat dish. I didn't have corn starch, so I used Wondra. Couldn't get to a gravy state. Would definitely try again with corn starch and crossed fingers.
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteLove these sooo much! They are absolutely 💯 delicious!
ReplyDeleteI made this like the recipe but didn’t have dried onions so i used real onions for the patties. I baked the patties in the oven on 350 degrees until they were done (about 45 min - 1 hour). I then poured the prepared sauce once thickened into pan with the patties…delicious
