Homemade Biscuits from Scratch

Yum
Ingredients
5 Cups - all-purpose flour
5 tsp - baking powder
2 TBS - sugar
1 cup - salted butter (ice cold and cubed in small pieces)
1.5 Cups - Milk
3 large - eggs (2 for dough, 1 for brushing the top of the biscuits)

Directions
1.  In a large mixing bowl mix butter and flour together until well incorporated.
2.  Add sugar and baking powder and continue to incorporate with butter and flour.
3.  Add milk and 2 eggs and mix until the dough forms a ball.
4.  Flour a clean work surface and knead the dough until it forms a smooth ball.
5.  With a rolling pin, roll out to 1/2" uniform thickness and cut out biscuits.
6.  Place on a non stick pan and brush the tops with one beaten egg, this will give a nice golden brown finish.
7.  Bake in a 400ยบ  oven for 15 minutes.

Enjoy!

    1. It all depends. Be careful when you do this. There are some *margarines* that say right on the container 'do not use for baking'. Butter has to contain 80% fat, and margarine has to contain 80% vegetable fat. Spreads contain less than 80% fat by weight and have more water. If you used a spread, definitely that will cause some problems. It is a common mistake to think a certain Spread is a margarine. Double check what you use is actually margarine and that the fat content is at least 80%. Also, the tubs can have air whipped in them, so only the sticks should be used for baking.

    1. Hi Paige, it will make approximately 20 biscuits depending on how big your cutter is and how much your roll the dough out. Hope you enjoy!

    1. I'm not a real big baker, so hopefully someone else will chime in.......I would guess you can use shortening in place of butter? But don't hold me to it?

  13. I have a question about the biscuits browning. I followed directions to a T, came out beautiful, but the tops of mine are not browning. What should I do? I left them in the oven for an extra 5 mins....

    1. Where are you placing them in the oven? If they're down very low they won't brown.

  15. I have made biscuits lots of times, but they always come out the same. They become construction tools they are so hard. So,my dear husband wanted biscuits with dinner. I didnt have any, but said i could make them. His reaction was that of fear and a quick no. I found this recipe on YouTube and i just want to say thank you so much for it. Ive made them 2 times since finding it!!! The biscuits are flaky, buttery, and absolutely amazing.I truly wish you could have seen my husbands face! Thank you, they are fabulous!!!

  19. First of all, these are the best! I really love them and I can't wait to make them again. They were very easy to make and very tasty, but I have one problem, they were very dry. Im sure because of the young baker I am it's my fault, but I was wondering if I can add more milk or egg if this happens again?

    Amber
